Rachel Hergett is a Bozeman-based storyteller and maker. She loves travel and adventures, learning and exploring, time spent on the water, and sleeping under the stars.

Rachel covered the arts at the Bozeman Daily Chronicle for the better part of a decade and currently writes about science at Montana State University and art in all forms for Bozeman Arts Live. In a nod to her Japanese grandmother, Rachel has also been known to pen a haiku or two. You can hear her voice over the airwaves as longtime host of the Magic Monday Show on KGLT, Bozeman’s alternative public radio station.

As a maker, Rachel shines at Halloween. Her favorite holiday allows her to showcase whimsical costume creations often based on inanimate objects — a pin cushion, a pinata, a volcano. She collaborates on designs with Naomi Stewart (a local quilter who happens to be her mother), lends costume- and prop-making skills to local theaters, and created the original “Demon Baby” for “Freak Out: The Musical.” She finds joy in bringing crazy ideas to life. Rachel’s creativity follows her into the kitchen, where she often experiments with new ingredients. We’ll leave out the “witch” sounding word and just say she’s crafty.
