Jan Poulsen is a long time resident and artist (The Crystal Rainbow Studio) in Bozeman. She raised her three daughters, Lori, Julie and Vicki (Sabine) in Great Falls.

Years ago, Julie wanted a medieval wedding and asked everyone to come in costume. Sabine said, “Well, I definitely was not human back then!” So, she went as a fairy.

Sabine lived in San Francisco after graduating from H.S. Among other things, she was a talented artist and writer. She knew where all the fairy houses were located in the parks and would make regular visits to answer children’s letters that were left there, often making them little gifts too. She loved playing a fairy for children!

Sabine was a wood nymph. After walking in the forest with her, you would find little treasures in your pockets—a four leaf clover, a shiny stone, a little flower that somehow mysteriously appeared.

Cancer took our Sweet and Silly Sabine 2 1/2 years ago. We made this fairy house for her Celebration of Life. (Jan and her husband, Jeff, and granddaughter Sofia added a few extras for this installation.)

Sabine is over the rainbow now. Surely she is looking down on Bumblewood Thicket—smiling.
