Flutterby Thicket Piece: Flights of Fancy Flight School (and Candy Shop)

Best part of being involved with Project Fairy Village:

"I had thought that the best part of being involved in this project was the pleasure I took in creating it. I had so much fun brainstorming and then gathering and assembling all the bits and pieces, and I really loved constructing a story to go with the piece I created. Then I installed it in the village and the real fun began! Hearing children (and adults) exclaim with delight when they discovered each piece made my heart so happy. Watching people interact with my installation and both discovering the stories I had imagined and making up their own was the best thing I’ve experienced in a very long time."

What do you want people to know about your piece:

" Here at Flights of Fancy Flight School (and Candy Shop) we understand how important it is that your precious wee ones learn the faerial arts with support and structure while maintaining an all important sense of whimsy and wonder. Contrary to popular belief, flying does not come naturally to our kind and it is of upmost importance to develop both strength and proper technique at a young age. We start with the fundamentals, using specially developed spider silk harnesses, helmets and certified faerial flight instructors and build up to specialized acrobatics and synchronized faerial dance teams.

Recent research has shown that despite our hollow and flexible bone structure, young faerie skulls are especially vulnerable to traumatic injury which can cause a lifetime of navigation and balance issues. Because of this we have strict helmet requirements for all faerialists in training as well as instruction in safe falling, small and large bird collision and crash-landing techniques.

It’s never too late to learn to fly fancy! We also offer personalized one-on-one instruction for fae folk of all ages and abilities. Finally, we believe that flying brings families together. We welcome you and your wee ones to schedule a supported family flight session or to attend our faerial dance and music nights, each month on the full moon.

CORVID-19 STATEMENT: In these turbulent and trying times, we continue to maintain strict standards of cleanliness and practice physical distancing. State of the art mycorrhizal masks are both required and supplied by the school. Class sizes are limited and students are distanced by at least six inches at all times. Our candy shop is offering branchside pickup so customers can still enjoy their favorite peaseblossom pops, rosehip suckers and nectar-tinis after a long day of flying. We appreciate your cooperation and commitment to keeping our faemmunity safe and healthy.

Flights of Fancy Flight School does not discriminate on the basis of age, color, gender, orientation, elevation, wing size or shape, ancestry, ability or sense of humor."

Where can we see other examples of your work:
